…Notes from the Road...

Cowboy Bill has a Once in a Lifetime Lunch Date

If there is one thing that I love, it is old Vegas.  And a chance lunch with none other than legendary impressionist, Rich Little put me as close as I have ever been to it.

I was headlining the Comedy Stop in the Sahara Hotel which is already rich in Vegas history.  One of the most famous moments in show business history came during the Jerry Lewis Telethon, when Frank Sinatra reunited the comedy duo of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis and it all happened at the Sahara."

"But then the GM of the Comedy Stop, Norm Johnson (who was the long time manager for Robert Goulet) invites me to a luncheon with Rich Little.  I walk in and I was a little embarrassed to find out that it was a black tie event.  But I should have known that because this was old Vegas.

Pinky rings and Vegas cool all the way!   I felt like I had been plopped down onto the set of the movie Casino, 25 year later with the guys who didn't get wacked!

It wasn't long after arriving that in walks none other than Rich Little and the first thing that he says to me is, "Nice tux kid!"  But it is so cool.  I got to sit with Vincent Falcone (long time orchestra leader for Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett) and his lovely wife.  And we talked show business and the Sinatra days.

And it was capped off with Rich and comedian Steve Rossi (of Rossi and Allen) do time.  Incredible!

My Two Cents Worth: Thanks for a Hell of a Year 2009

I wanted to just send you note of thanks and gratitude for all of you love and support that you have given me over the last year.   This last year might have been one of the most memorable of my career.  Obviously the most impacting shows were the ones we did over seas in the Middle East and then the end of the year was capped off with having Vincent Falcone co-write a song with me which we are going to begin to shop the first part of the coming year.

I can't remember being this happy in a very long time both professionally and personally.  The kids are great.  I have a new son-in-law now, Michael and he and Brittney are so good for each other.  They are both working on their Masters Degree at Sul Ross in Alpine.  And hopefully they will be moving back to metroplex this next summer.  Michael is looking for a coaching/teaching job here and Brittney has applied at TCU and UTA

Jacob is in his junior year at Stephan F. Austin in Nacogdoches and he is just doing great.  He just got his grades back and is carrying a 3.4 GPA.  He and his girlfriend Sharon are still dating but he promises me that there is no marriage in the immediate future. lol

And little Miss Audie Grace will turn 5 in a couple of months and she amazes me with her smile and laughter.  And I have to admit she might be the comedian of the group.  The other day she said, "Daddy, do you know there is lettuce in our prayer?"  I said, "There is?"  And she said, "Yeah, lettuce be thankful for our food, Amen."

It just goes to prove that life is full of surprises.  And as long as you stay in it, unbelievable things can happen to you.

I wish you the very best in the coming New Year.  T. S. Eliot said, "For last year's words belong to last year's language and next year's words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning."

So no matter how this year ended for you, the New Year is a new beginning.  Make the most of it.  This is your year.
Happy New Year from me and the kids.

And that’s my two cents worth.
